Egaeus Press
« on: November 15, 2015, 02:19:50 PM »
Egaeus Press publishes morbid, fantastical and baroque fiction in limited edition hardcover volumes of a quality of ornateness rarely seen in modern books.

Their mission;

The foundations for Egaeus Press were laid in the cold English summer of 2011 in the dreamclutter of a childish melancholia - a nursery room agoraphobia compelling us to recall the anguished ticks of broken clockwork, the smell of curdled milk, the image of a songbird’s funeral on the tobacco-dry pages of an antique scrapbook … We are moved by the concept of the world as a haunted house, and by the paradox of all life’s darkest fears and most ecstatic wonders being essentially one and the same.

We like (amongst other things):
Historical settings
Elemental forces
Connoisseurs and collectors
The folk tales of Europe
Hermetic lore
Crumbling ancestral homes
Forests and mountains
Clocks and clockwork
Ghost stories
Architectural anomalies
Masks and music boxes
Toy theatres
Stuffed animals
Furs and antlers
Poison gardens
Lych houses and gallow trees
Seasons and cycles
Books and such

Horror fiction · Hauntology · Folklore

In its brief existence, Egaeus has established itself as a top tier publisher in terms of both the physical quality of the books it is publishing and the caliber of authors it secures.

A brief message to make it known that there are a mere 20 remaining copies of Molly Tanzer's RUMBULLION & OTHER LIMINAL LIBATIONS.

http://www.egaeuspress.com/Rumbullion.html

Featuring her novella, Rumbullion - a story of bacchanalian lust, murder, cannibalism and unreliable narration - along with six shorter strange tales; each piece is furthermore presented with a corresponding imbibation from Molly's distinctive repertoire, to be concocted by the reader with the hope perhaps that his or her enjoyment of the stories will be in some modest way enhanced...

Ladies & Gentlemen

An enormous thank you to everyone and anyone who purchased Egaeus Press books in 2015.

It's been a successful year in every sense. Adam Cantwell's BASTARDS OF THE ABSOLUTE caused discord and wonder, and our homage to the great god, SOLILOQUY FOR PAN sold phenomenally well, and continues to do so in its second printing.

2016 is likely to be our most prolific year. In February, BRUTAL PANTOMIMES a new collection of short stories, novellettes and novellas from Rhys Hughes will see publication. Then, in the month or so after that we will be launching EGAEUS PRESS KEYNOTE EDITIONS: pocket sized single author limited editions, the first two of which come courtesy of Rebecca Lloyd and Derek John.

And there's more... Later in the year we'll publish the first collected edition of very weird tales by Charles Wilkinson, then a somewhat crepuscular anthology of sorts, and something utterly wonderful to close the year... but let's leave a few surprises.

Details will, at any rate, be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, again, thank you, and a pleasant yule to you all.

Mark

BRUTAL PANTOMIMES, the new book by Rhys Hughes is now available to PRE-ORDER from the Egaeus Press website.

Ten tales of absurd exoticism, weird adventure and wild fantasy, some of which are regarded by their author to be amongst his best works.

Enjoy pirate shenanigans, a globe of the Earth that is a voodoo doll, the dubious gifts of a Greek god, impossible angles, improbable sciences, impractical philosophies, a rare tropical yeti in a submarine and so much more. And concealed randomly throughout the first 100 copies ordered directly from the website are a number of handwritten Rhys Hughes manuscripts (number to be confirmed). Get in early to stand a chance of securing one; but remember, it is random!

The book is a lithographically printed, 256 page sewn hardback with colour endpapers and cover by František Tichý, as well as illustrations throughout by Jacques Callot. Featuring an introduction by Michael Cisco. It is limited to 300 copies. ISBN 978-0-957160699.

It can be purchased for Ł32.00 inclusive of postage worldwide. The official publication date will be 13th February 2016 and all ordered copies will be despatched then or shortly afterwards

Ladies & Gentlemen,

The next Egaeus Press book will be A MIDWINTER ENTERTAINMENT and will be published in November.

A collection of curious stories, poems and miscellanea dedicated to short, yellowish days and long nights, to heavy curtains and the cracks and pops of burning logs, to frost-encroached byways and sturdy old inns, to skeletal trees and hungry black birds; and to Christmas of course and all that comes with it.

It will feature a new Connoisseur adventure by Mark Valentine & John Howard, two remarkable George Berguńo translations of previously untranslated French pieces, as well as works by Alison Littlewood, Vincent O’Sullivan, Ron Weighell, Sheryl Humphrey, Avalon Brantley, Sara Rich, Nina Antonia, Tina Rath, Jonathan Wood, Jane Fox and Ross Smeltzer, amongst others.

The perfect festive gift!

More information in the weeks to come.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Some have noted a mention of our upcoming publication, THE GREENWOOD FAUN by Nina Antonia on the Wormwoodiana blog, and a reading the author will be making at Putney Library, London, on Wednesday 13 December between 6.45pm to 7.45pm. If you happen to be in the region, I'm sure you won't be disappointed, and mulled wine will be on hand to stave of the evening chill. (For more information call 020 8780 3085, or email Charlene.Coleman@gll.org.)

In answer to a number of queries which we have subsequently received, the book itself will be available to order in the early days of December, certainly before Faunalia (5th of December). Further announcements will be made in the weeks to come.

It is a quite remarkable work... “shot through with decadence, poetry, opium and incense . . .this is a beautifully written proem: witty, crepuscular, enchanting, surprising” - David Tibet

Meanwhile, a big thank you to everyone who ordered (or pre-ordered) THE ECHO OF THE SEA & OTHER STRANGE WAR STORIES by Paul StJohn Mackintosh. It has shaped up to be quite a success. All ordered copies have been despatched and if they haven't already received yours, you should do very soon.

And if you haven't ordered already, copies are still available from the EGAEUS PRESS WEBSITE. Don't forget, this book is limited to 250 copies, and they won't be around forever!
