Evil Dead (2013)
« on: January 28, 2013, 11:19:30 PM »
A remake, or more like re-imaging of the 1981 film of the same title, which has since become generally considered as one of the finest horror films to come out of the 80's. Spanning two sequels and countless fans.

Will this have a similar reaction amongst original fans and the new.

I haven't seen anything about it, but fans seem to be warming up to it.

Personally I feel this has potential, interesting visuals is what is leading me to this opinion. I do feel the group who go to the cabin looks like any group of pretty people who are in most mainstream movies but whatever, as long as they suffer in the name of horror it is cool.

I don't like the look of how glossy it is in the stills. But, that's just movies these days I suppose. It's a shame the raw, gritty feel and quality is often left out these days.

Well, in more cases than not, that raw gritty feeling is due to the budget. The first Evil Dead wasn't really known for its budget and while it looks shitty to some, it's awesome looking to us. I think every horror director's (well the good horror director's) dream nowadays is to make a horror film with a big budget that's on par with the old stuff. I think the closest we will get to gritty horror is the POS found footage flicks.

But..new Evil Dead looks fucking brilliant. I'm still saving myself for the theater. I watched the first Red Band trailer and that's it for me.

I know what you're saying DM, but I just think some films lose so much of their power when everything is so crystal clear. Films like TCM need that, and I love how in it's BluRay they left a shit load a grain, as they know it helps for the overall feel. They made it sharper and clearer but they obviously drew a line.

I just wish it was done with films out of the found footage genre these days.

I watched the trailer for this today, impressed but disappointed in the make up, they don't look at all disgusting. I still watch the original and think "Fuck, these cunts look nasty." From what we see here they just have pale skin and a bit of blood on them, fucking lame.

That tongue and knife scene at the end was pretty awesome though. I'm not the biggest fan of the original so I'm not overly pumped but I will be checking it out.

The trailer has gotten me hooked now.  I'll be seeing it in theatres after a few days out in the market.

Part of me wanted to see an Evil Dead remake. The original is pretty dated. It's one of my favorite horror films of all time, but I think the new one can do wonders. Plus I think the makeup to the new one is a lot more disgusting looking than the cheaply looking effects of Evil Dead 1. Evil Dead 2 is a different story altogether.

No way. I don't like the look at all. It looks far too 'pretty and clean'

Vs

I think the first is a lot, a lot more effective and nasty looking. Apart from how the Deadites look though the trailer is pretty awesome.

It looks more realistic. The makeup for the original was meh at best.

Evil Dead 2 was MUCH better looking. The first one was bleh during some scenes.

More realistic? LOLOLOL.

You do realise these are people possessed by things, right, brought back from words in a  book, right? They don't look off putting at all in the remake, more so look like a semi clean hobo.

Really? I think they look very, very unimaginative. I've seen this in EVERY exorcist type flick. Boring and clean looking. The just look like homeless people. I think it's very disappointing.

Um yes, but it doesn't matter if they were brought back from the woods. They are spirits. They can take whatever form they wish. In the original they took the form of clown makeup. You keep saying the word "clean" all the time when the spirits have no physical form until they enter a body.

I mean I love the original to death, but the makeup wasn't all there for some of the characters..
