Buio Omega ~ Beyond the Darkness (1979)
« on: February 03, 2013, 06:32:57 PM »

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078916/

Quote
A young rich orphan loses his fiancée to voodoo doll mischief on the part of his housekeeper who is jealous of his attentions. He digs his girlfriend up, cleans her out, stuffs her, and puts her in bed at the mansion. Following this, he tries out and disposes of a series of young maidens, trying to find the right replacement for her, and the disapproving housekeeper helps him with the disposals.

Joe D'amato doesnt saved anything  in Buio Omega,  includes several extreme sequences with the protagonist and his housekeeper swallowing the remains of their victims. The realistic special effects, for its part, provide a high quota of forcefulness to the story, with a perfect soundtrack, that hypnotizes you and gets you into the insane world of the protagonist and the maid.

D'amato develops an atmosphere as cold as death itself, telling a schizophrenic plot where most insane eroticism and violence are always present. Absolutely recommended.

I was never the biggest fan of D'Amato, but he really nailed it with this little sickie. There is something about this cancerous celluloid that just churns my stomach. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I can recall most scenes verbatim it seems. I wouldn't mind venturing into this world again soon...so, thanks for the recall.

D'Amato was generally a hack shooting mostly everything he made with the sole purpose in mind of making money. It was just about selling a product for him a lot of the time. However, with 'Beyond the Darkness' I think he made it with a lot of heart for the story. It's not perfect by any means but it's probably his best movie. Solid sick stuff.

This is one of those films that I find very hard to explain why I like it so much...

...I guess I just do.
