Title: Flesh of the Void

Flesh of the Void is a terribly disturbing experimental horror film about what it could feel like if death truly were the most horrible thing one could ever experience. It is intended as a trip through the deepest fears of human beings, exploring its subject in a highly grotesque, violent and extreme manner.

Flesh of the Void doesn't follow a story line in the traditional sense. It focuses on the question "what happens after we die?", and tries to depict the possibility of death being the most horrible, terrifying experience you could ever have, before you finally become one with the darkness, become the flesh of the void.
We like to describe the style and overall feel of the film as "if the tape from The Ring was made for the deep web".
And trust us when we say you're going to see things in this film you will wish to never have seen, ever.

While the main part still needs to be processed and digitized, we now have tons of outdoor material, from which a lot of shots will make it into the final cut of Flesh of the Void. Some of these will be associated with some enormously creepy themes, which we're not going to say though, since we don't want to spoil anything.
The shots you are seeing here were shot on stone old Super 8 film that expired in the 70s, developed in a very unusual way. They are extremely grainy and have a huge amount of scratches on them, and some of it even looks a bit like Begotten.
This whole dirty, grimy feeling will contribute strongly to the whole weird- and sickness of the project. Disturbing scenes just somehow look way more disturbing in this style.

Flesh of the Void will be a very unique film. A lot of that is due to heavy experimentation with celluloid. Be it self made overlays of completely scratched and ruined negatives, liquids and hair pressed between two of them, then scanned in all sorts of ways, and afterwards arranged as an image sequence, then laid over the footage, or just text scratched directly onto the negatives, we got it all.
The latter is what we want to show you today. Every single line of text, every letter you will see in the film has been hand scratched directly on the negatives. Even the credits. It's a brutal amount of work doing this, but it makes the film the more atmospheric and sinister.
We're also going to be doing some other weird experiments with expired 8mm film from the 70s soon.

Not too long ago, we finished shooting the main part of Flesh of the Void. We shot in a dark, wet cellar, in the middle of nowhere, resulting in some of the creepiest scenes we've ever captured. This photo is a production still our friend Markus took (thanks for that), shortly before we shot a brutally uncomfortable scene, which will the most disturbing and extreme one from the whole film.
So, what's inside the buggy you ask? Something really, really disgusting and repulsive, something that will definitely freak a lot of people out. That's all we're going to say right now. If you want to find out what's inside, you'll have to watch the film.

Huge announcement and new stills!
Flesh of the Void was initially planned to be a seven to eight minute short film. Production has been going so well so far though that we shot way, way more footage than that, and we're not even half finished. What does that mean for Flesh of the Void? It means that we're going to make it a feature film. This is huge, as it will mark Sodom & Chimera Productions' first feature film. It's not clear as to when exactly it will be finished, since there's still a lot of planning to do, but it will definitely happen this way. We're all excited and can't wait to continue shooting.
To celebrate that, we're releasing three new stills. You might wonder why it only shows two here on Facebook. That's because one of them is exclusive to sodomchimera.com. It is the first still we have ever released of one of the more extreme scenes from the film, and it's impossible to post it on Facebook due to the graphic content, in both, nudity and violence. Head over to the page and check it out! You can find the still and more information about it through this link:
https://www.sodomchimera.com/ (https://www.sodomchimera.com/)…/huge-announcement-and-new-s…/
More info and stills will follow as always. Stay tuned!

Flesh of the Void is moving forward fast! We now have a considerable amount of new footage, which is currently being edited. Also, there's a major shoot for the film coming up soon, which should bring it to the 50 - 60 minute mark, which, considering that the film is planned to reach about 75 minutes, excluding credits, means that we will be very close to finishing it at that point. If everything goes right, we should be able to finish the film by mid May, including post production, which is amazing and a lot sooner than we expected.
For now, check out some stills from some of the new scenes. These are some of my absolute favorites so far.
More to follow. Stay tuned.

As promised, here is the second of the three new Flesh of the Void posters! This one is quite different from the last, with a lot of white in it, as opposed to the very dark previous one, while still perfectly capturing the grotesque essence of the film.

Poster art by David Chance Fragale.

Stay tuned for the third one tomorrow!

Here it is, the third and last of the new posters from Flesh of the Void. The first one was brutal and gritty, the second one very bright and grotesque, this one though just really gets across this dreadful feeling of absolute void, which is fantastic.

Again, we can't thank David Chance Fragale enough for providing us with these posters, they turned out amazing! We are going to use the bright one from yesterday as the main one for now.

Regarding the film itself, we still have tons of production stills from the various shoots, which we're going to post this upcoming week. We'll also receive a small part of footage back from development tomorrow, so there's a good chance you might be seeing new film stills soon. Stay tuned for more!

Check out this new still from Flesh of the Void! We're not gonna say what's happening in this scene, but besides being really uncomfortable, it's also quite sad. We're not going to say why though, you'll have to find that out yourself.

This particular shot, like most of the second half of the film, was shot on 16mm, and it's the exact reason why we love shooting it so much. The grain and sharpness are stunning, and it just has this organic, thick look that makes analog so beautiful. For exactly that reason, you can expect a lot more films to be shot on celluloid from Sodom & Chimera Productions in the future. Let's keep film alive!

Check out this new film still from Flesh of the Void. If you've seen Sodom & Chimera Productions other short 'The Law of Sodom', this may actually look extremely familiar to you. We've always loved weird figures in gas masks. For some reason, wearing that mask completely rids you of any human personality and gives you a bizarre, animal look instead. This will most likely not be our last film that includes people wearing these.

Also, by shooting this short scene, we finally got to capture the gas mask man on 16mm, which really is the main reason of why this exact shot works so well. Shooting a feature entirely on film is the most beautiful thing we have ever had the pleasure of doing, and, as we have mentioned in an earlier post, we will try to continue shooting on it as much as we can. There's actually a short we're planning to shoot on 35mm later this year. We can't say anything at all about it yet, but it will be super dark and bizarre, even though a lot more traditional in terms of horror than our previous films.

Anyway, enjoy this 16mm still for now! We will officially start the final stage of post production on June 10th. You will get to see a lot more new stuff in the weeks after that. Until then, you'll see more production stills than actual film stills from us. We'll keep you updated though. Stay tuned!

To celebrate this a little, here's a 35mm production still which we thought had been lost. Director James found the negative buried under pieces of paper, and we're super happy about it, since it's a fantastic photograph. Huge thanks to Éon.noir Photography for taking it!
More to come soon, stay tuned!

It's done. After five intense months of production, Flesh of the Void is finally finished. It was a lot of hard work, sometimes very frustrating, often exhausting, but looking back, it was an extremely rich and inspiring experience for all of us. Shooting an entire feature on actual film was beautiful, as well as making something without giving a single thought to the fact that people might hate us for it. Finally having the film finished is an absolutely cathartic moment, and we can't wait to unleash this nightmare onto the masses. The film is only 77 minutes long, yet somehow, we managed to pack quite an overwhelming amount of weirdness in it. It comes in five parts, a prologue, three acts, and an epilogue. All of those parts are unique in their own way, both, visually, and in terms of what is happening in the scenes.
To celebrate not only the fact that the film is finished, but also that we just hit 700 likes on Facebook and 30 000 clicks on the trailer, here are three new stills. They're all very different from each other, and each of them belongs to a different segment of the film.
Stay tuned for more. There is a second trailer coming, which we will release along with some very important information. Let us warn you in advance though: If you thought the first trailer was disturbing, don't bother watching the second one. At this point, we're just hoping Vimeo will allow it and keep it online. You'll figure out why.

Two days ago, the new trailer for Flesh of the Void was released. It went extremely well so far, with tons of coverage in articles from all over the world, a whole lot of new fans, which today made us reach 900 likes on the film's Facebook page, and over 16000 clicks on Vimeo. We did spark a lot of hate too, as expected, but that's okay, it really isn't for everybody.
My favorite comment yet was "this makes John Waters flicks look like Bambi."
Here is a small selection of articles from the past two days (posting all of them is impossible, due to the large amount)

http://www.horror-movies.ca/ (http://www.horror-movies.ca/)…/nsfw-trailer-flesh-void-bego…/
Also, one thing I'd like to clarify, after it was brought up by a couple of people: The trailer shows a lot of violence and cruelty, but this film is not in any way torture porn, or like August Underground. Even though there are some very extreme scenes in the film, the amount of gore shown is a lot lower than you might think. A lot of what's shown is there to play with your mind, on a purely psychological basis, and the film's purpose is not to gross you out, but make you feel something you may not have felt before. The ending of the film is actually quite calm and thoughtful, which says a lot about what I was trying to achieve emotionally, since endings completely shape the way you leave a film.
That said, yes, it's still messed up.

Can't wait to see Flesh of the Void? Good news. We're going to announce the world premiere of the film very, very soon. We're also planning on doing another press release, with new stills and information. So watch out in the next few days, we'll be announcing it here on Facebook, as well as on sodomchimera.com.
Until then, check out these two shots. You most likely already know the second one, which is a still from the film. What you probably didn't know is that it was based on a 35mm photograph director James Quinn took almost a year before production of the film started. It was recreated identically, and shot on 16mm for the film itself, with the exact same set, props and costume. Seeing this shot come to life this way was an absolutely beautiful process, and was later done with several of his other photographs.
More coming soon. Stay tuned.

Any tattoo fans among our audience? We can't help but show this off.
The process of shooting Flesh of the Void had quite an impact on us. One still in particular got stuck in our heads, and it sort of became the main image for the film, popping up wherever someone mentioned us. Well, from now on, this very image will be on director James Quinn's arm for the rest of his life. Since it is his first feature, it has quite a lot of personal meaning, making it a perfect tattoo.
If you're on Instagram, check out the tattoo artist's page. His name is Armin, and you can find him at @todt_und_deibel_ink.
He truly is a master of his craft, and has even managed to recreate the Super 8 grain from the original image. If you're into dark art, you should definitely enjoy his work.
We also have other news for you:
We're currently working on Sodom & Chimera Productions merchandise. We're going to be selling Flesh of the Void and The Law of Sodom shirts, as well as prints of the official Flesh of the Void poster. We'll post an update as soon as everything is ready.
As always, stay tuned, more is on the way.
