I like the idea of the kids escaping the mental hospital, mental wards, insane asylums are always a plus for me. : ) I have a feeling I'm going to like this, with  Bettis, Lili Taylor and then Dorff  :red_heart: and  add Bustillo and Maury.........

In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface

Ehh, I'll keep my expectations low.

Going by the track record. 99% of these reboots, prequels, remakes have been fucking terrible. Nothing about this has indicated differently.

We don't need to see why Leatherface is Leatherface. We get a good enough look at how batshit crazy the Sawyers are in the original. Enough said.

I need to see a trailer before I really make an opinion. We should be able to see where its going with that.

The long-awaited prequel to Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre finally has an official release date after holding a premiere at the forthcoming FrightFest in London.

Bloody Disgusting learned today that Leatherface will be an exclusive DirecTV release on September 21, 2017, with a limited theatrical run and full VOD release through Lionsgate revved up for October 20, 2017!

Leatherface is rated R “for strong bloody violence, disturbing images, language and some sexuality/nudity.” Millennium Films is listed as the distributor, although Lionsgate had originally been set to release the film. No word on where this stands.

In Leatherface, Jessica Madsen plays one of four inmates (Sam Coleman, Sam Strike, James Bloor) who escapes from a mental hospital. One of them becomes the title character and iconic slasher. The quartet kidnaps a young nurse (played by Vanessa Grasse) and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman (Stephen Dorff) out for revenge. The Conjuring‘s Lili Taylor is Verna Sawyer.

Leatherface was directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind the slasher masterpiece Inside (À l’intérieur), as well as Livide and Among the Living.

When we talked with the filmmakers, they told us the film is “a brutal and nihilistic road movie that we hope will surprise and delight the fans…”

A couple of weeks ago I was just talking about Aux yeux des vivants, I think it was?, and I remembered that the same directors were working on Leatherface, in fact I was surprised that there was still no news about this movie. We finally know something else.

You couldn't ask for better filmmakers than Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo with Inside and Livide behind them for Leatherface....haven't had the pleasure of watching Among the Living unfortunately!

FrighT MasteR from UHM...

I caught a screener of this earlier and I'm barred from posting a review until the film's October release, so until then here's a rundown of my thoughts:

The movie was decent, but didn't really feel like TCM until the last 20 minutes. For the first hour we're just following these escaped "teens" as they go on a rampage across the state, while also trying to evade the police, specifically Stephen Dorff, who has a grudge against the family. There's a great sequence in a diner where a bunch of people get killed and they try to play like we can't actually guess who's the real Leatherface from the group when it's fairly obvious. There's a girl among the group that's actually crazier than the guys, which I thought was cool and Lili Taylor is good as the Mother of the family, even though she really isn't in the movie much. There's also a nice amount of blood and gore in it, which is a given considering the directors. The movie is definitely an improvement over the last TCM (which I thought was terrible), but like I said it doesn't actually feel like a TCM movie until the end, so don't expect much chainsaw action until the last bits. I'd give it a 6/10.
